Shepparton is a city on the floodplain of the River Goulburn in Victoria. Beginning as a sheep station in the mid-1900s, Shepparton has grown into a major centre of agriculture and industry, and acts as the administrative centre of its Local Government Area, the City of Greater Shepparton. Seeing rapid growth after the Second World War driven by migration, with the population nearly tripling over the course of a decade, the city was rapidly modernised to accommodate such development. The Maude Street Mall acts as the primary centre of commerce in Shepparton, and features an observation deck atop a communications tower offering sweeping views over Shepparton and its rural locale.
Shepparton is a beautiful rural city full of culture and character. Hosting a number of festivals annually and containing such amenities as a large swimming centre, a number of sports grounds and a series of schools ranging from primary schools to university campuses. Located at the junction of the Midland and Goulburn Valley highways, Shepparton has excellent connections by road and is serviced by V/Line railway services’ Shepparton Line via Shepparton station, which connects the city to Melbourne.
