Baulkham Hills, the administrative centre of the Local Government Area of The Hills Shire, is a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales. Found within Greater Western Sydney, Baulkham Hills is affectionately known to its residents and those of the surrounding area as ‘Baulko’. Its name derives from a distortion of the Scottish region of Buckholm Hills, Roxburgh County and was first used in the early 1800s; a post office opened there in 1856. Growth in the region was rapidly accelerated by the development of the Rogans Hill railway line in the early 20th century. Primarily a residential municipality with a population well over 35,000, Baulkham Hills is also home to the Norwest Business Park.
Just 31 kilometres northwest of Sydney’s Central Business District, Baulkham Hills has seen steady urban growth since the 1960s. Aside from housing, Baulkham Hills also contains a commercial area and a small business district, along with a number of schools and parks, notably including the Bidjigal Reserve, named for the indigenous people who historically inhabited the lands that today comprise Baulkham Hills. The municipality is primarily accessible by road, but is also regularly serviced by buses. A suburb full of promise and development with excellent facilities and a rich culture, Baulham Hills is an excellent place to own property.
