Moree is a picturesque countryside town in northern New South Wales. It sits on the banks of the Mehi River and is around 630km from Sydney, the state capital. Officially gazetted as a town in 1862, Moree quickly became an agricultural centre due to the fertile black-soil planes on which it lies, and thrived as a result; Moree remains prominent in the Australian cotton-growing industry to this day. Aside from agriculture, Moree is also known for its artesian hot spring baths, famous for their supposed healing abilities. The local Government area of Moree is known as Moree Plains Shire.
Moree has a population of a little over 7300 people, making it a relatively small town, yet not so small as to seem uninhabited or inaccessible. Moree is connected to several major cities by rail; it is also served by Moree Airport, which sees regular flights to and from Sydney and Brisbane run by national airlines. Moree is an affordable, idyllic, relaxed place to live, with excellent facilities and travel links and a tranquil, traditional way of life.
